Akkadian cuneiform script. Cuneiform is the earliest known writing style along with Egyptian heirogylphics. This year cuneiform has popped up in a number of places- the Babylon exhibition at the British Museum and the book I am currently reading, Proust and the Squid. Which reminded me where I had already been reading about cuneiform this year- in Neal Stephenson’s cyberpunk masterpiece Snow Crash. It all links up in the end.
