Execution Dock, Wapping. The other weekend rather than getting the Tube into central London I caught the riverboat. In the eastern stretches of the Thames this is a stunning experience as the boat roars up the river with phenomenal power, wharves, docks and warehouses racing by. Wapping looks resplendent from the river, a bustling maritime trade centre perfectly preserved from it’s heyday as part of the world’s greatest entrepot (perfectly preserved, it must be said, by yuppie flats). It’s the small, less obvious details that make London such a unique and wonderful place, and theĀ retentionĀ of the gallows at Execution Dock, such an evocative sight, is an excellent example.
