You know it’s simple. You know it’s stupid. And obvious. But you know you want to.
Hacked
My Gmail got hacked. Violated. It sent a stupid, grammtically dubious plea to everyone I have ever emailed, asking if they would only stop at a website and buy stuff. Eff off.
There are a few things about this that disturbed and angered me. The first was the the sanctity of the Gmail account was broken. It’s like having a burgler break into your house, you suddenly feel vulnerable, exposed,...

Just been here for the weekend, including a session on ARGs. Good to see the new media buzz spreading way beyond London; good to see the buzz going strong for that matter.

The Times Ad Campaign
Is reminding us what advertising, journalism and design is all about. Clean, bold, timely these adverts are a strong and distinct summation of key cultural motifs and massively bolster the news brand, with that powerful and dignified masthead.
Why do I care? Firstly because adverts have been unusally annoying recently. Maybe that’s just me, but they have. I name no names. Yet. Secondly...

Very interesting interactive map of previous US elections. Still can’t quite believe the Democrats only secured one state- Minnesota- in 1984. Let’s hope the reverse is the case in 2008.

The Definition of Horrific
Is actually really easy to find. Go on Google Earth. Hover over the Amazon rainforest. Zoom. Look at what has happened.
Then just feel ill and disgusted with the world. What the hell have we done to our planet? How, just how, can our dumb ass and mechanised and right angled society get any more stupid and sickening? Don’t believe me?
Look damnit, look!!

News and Events and Words
Does anyone else have the following condition?
Great events happen, always have, always will. Now, thanks to the power of The Meeja, these events get broadcast live, chewed over by panelsists and columnists and hacks and talking haeds, get broadcast again on the evening news and then again at 10, before being blogged about, and chatted on the radio. The result is that there is a shedload of news...

Increasingly obsessed by more images like the one below. Almost to startling and fascinating to compute. I am always surprised by the continuing scale of Western Europe and particularly the UK. From the inside we can see like a pathetic little island, a place of smallness and meanness, but from these visualisations we maintain some of the swagger evident in the 1900 GDP chart. Not sure how.

Nobel Literature Head: US writers to insular to...
Err, this is stupid. The head of the Nobel Literature committee thinks US literature is to insular to win the award, and that Europe is way ahead. What? This is crazy. Yes English speaking countries might not read as much literature in translation as might be healthy. The suggestion that Europe is ahead though is laughable when one thinks of the great American writers from the past 50 years. Aside...
